It was back in October that the English band – White Ape first appeared on the site. They are releasing a three track single on the 19th – Kick It Down.

Opening with the title track Kick It Down immediately it becomes apparent that White Ape are looking forward to future as the track has a more developmental feel to it, whilst not loosing the traction of previous material. Combining complexities of rhythm with ska the three and a half minutes takes the listener on superb journey of conundrum.

Next is Fighting Fit which takes the audience back into the Lincoln Continental with soft suspension and white-wall tyres. A space in which the quartet have considerable qualities of musicianship as they combine strung out guitars with a foot-tapping tempo.

My pick of the release is Sink in which White Ape, to my ears fuse the darker mood with their familiar dance-step in a track that bursts with energy and acerbity.

This is a release that showcases some new ideas, whilst retaining a connection for established fans. I look forward to the rest of 2015 with White Ape firmly in my ‘must keep in touch with’ list.
