Jamie Woodfin Jr. – Life In A Bubble – Audio

The alt-rock project of Jamie Woodfin Jr. from Louisville (USA) creates music of dark demeanour.

A week yesterday the twelve track LP Synchronized Noise (available on bandcamp) was released. An album that displays a variety of influences in the output, with each track drawing from different wells, though always in common is a rooting in rock and a brooding, oppressive, countenance.

The half-spoken vocals enables the songs to create searing rumbles of ominous presence which roll through the room as though borne of stormy clouds.

Life In A Bubble is the sixth track.

Owen Lake And The Tragic Loves – Pardon Me, I’ve Got Someone to Kill – Audio

Owen Lake And The Tragic Loves

Drawing from the well of sad-times country Owen Lake And The Tragic Loves in The Best of Your Lies are able to paint far more than the anticipated bible-belt white Christian fundamentalist self-pity and are able to deliver a sound track which invites a broader audience to the room with an intriguing dozen track, roughly forty minutes, of drifting electronica melancholia (available on bandcamp) and as regular readers know I am always a sucker for a Pedal Steel, thereby making this a release I recommend getting to know on its release.

Pardon Me, I’ve Got Someone to Kill is the fifth of the songs.

For What It’s Worth – Straw Man – Audio

Mike Beyer (Guitar), Chris Beyer (Guitar / Vocals), Cody Hermann (Bass) and Mike DiLello (Drums) from West Islip (USA) who form the indie-light band For What It’s Worth released the EP Heavy // Hollow on the 23rd.

For What It’s Worth

The five track EP (available on bandcamp) feathers through the room as though borne on owl wings barely stirring the air, yet, despite its ease of flight are deftly created and intricate compositions which are, rather than on first light – simple constructions, complex layers of texturing in which the ears discover multidimensional interweaving of instrumentation and voice with the music having a mesmeric, somewhat ethereal, attraction.

Influences of indie-dance, maths-rock and roots rock are combined in to calmly delivered and consummate pieces of music – my pick of the release being the second – Straw Man.

Apologies, once again, despite this hanging around in my email inbox since the 8th I have only just caught the news of an album which came out earlier this month, once again I am late.

The ten track LP, Mama Pancake (available on bandcamp) is a more complete and rounded sound than their earlier introduction, though of similar sad countenance with the listener captivated by the slowly drifting melodies that fill the room with lingering notes that hang in the air like hazy regretful memories.

Many Minds, the third song, being my pick of the release.
