The Australian alt-rock trio The Francos revealed their latest track on the 26th.
Over time their music has developed in emotional intensity and the newest song Back To Basics, for me, is an exponential step in their progress.
A song which would have fitted squarely in to the Factory Records stable with its harmonics and low slung pace that delivers a palpable sadness which can be felt wiping away its own tear-stains as it emerges from the speakers, yet, in common with the best in melancholia there is an immersive beauty that lays within from which the listener has only a desire to linger for longer and allow themselves to be bathed in the soft glow of the stretched minor chords.

In my all too usual haphazard management of my email inbox, I managed to miss an email from them early this year and another one from last month, making this yet another apology and another article which is a day late to feature relating as it does to the EP Absolute Scenes (which is available on bandcamp) that came out on the 26th of last month.
Although it is less than a year since The Francos were introduced their music has moved on exponentially. The five tracks on the EP each take a different theme from the wardrobe allowing the trio to display an impressive range of songs while never letting the listener feel they are listening to a random anthology of material, in a release that raises the barrier which, resultingly, leaves the listener already speculating about what may or may not be on their, as yet only imagined in the minds of the audience, début LP.
Around is the penultimate track.

The indie-summer trio The Francos from Australia released the EP Take The Train Home on the 18th.
Five songs of summer-evening warmth (available on bandcamp) which fill the room with a perceptible raising of ambient temperature.
The compositions have a vague trad-jazz influence to them that feeds through as a skipping rhythm which is fused within hazy echoing guitar. The middle track is also the EP title Take The Train Home.
