Che Prasad - alt R'n'B from the USA

Che Prasad

Combining influences from across the globe, along with a disparity of strings Che Prasad utilises his talent and awareness to deliver music which reflects an underlying political perspective.

Whilst wrapped in the umbrella of R’n’B, the output itself has a global reach and reflective, providing an exhilarating journey into a genre I generally find somewhat insipid.

Utilising additional players and voices where appropriate Che Prasad is able to capture the focus as the listener wonders where the material will next lead. That isn’t to say it is a journey without direction as evidenced by his debut eleven track LP – Shiva Me Timbers – which has a natural flow to the material which ranges from the mainstream, through Sea Shanties to classical Indian sub-continent.

The idiosyncratic, slightly comedic lyrics are not overtly aggressive, more of a tempter for the audience to wrestle whilst around it lays a delightful construct of instrumentation for the audience to enjoy even on a non-engaged level. However to not work with the words and the sounds is to miss the full value of the out-put.

The Fun Part

The Fun Part from Overpelt in Belgium is the alt-folk singer songwriter Darleen Jansen.

The Fun Part

The haunting sounds that are The Fun Part add a fine mesh to the world of music. This is material for a period of quiet reflection and voice of Darleen Jansen has something of an hypnotic quality. Still relatively new on the scene there is a journey of discovery The Fun Part is taking, testing out ideas and instrumental styles, including loud backdrops of electronics.

In my view the pieces work best when they are pared back to the spectral and the listener is able to focus on the ethereal nature of the writing. There is a timeless quality to the music and it would be easy to draw comparisons to some of the iconic songwriters of eras gone by, yet to do so would be to detract from the freshness of the music.

Already establishing considerable interest for the evocative sounds by those who have had the opportunity to hear her music, I wish The Fun Part every success in the creative process and look forward to hearing more in short order.

Lots Of Love

Lots Of Love is the vehicle for Los Angeles USA based indie pop singer songwriter Jessica Fleischer to deliver her ideas.

Lots of Love - indie pop from the USA

Lots of Love

There are very rare occasions when pop bubbles and great song-writing are not an oxymoron and Lots Of Love is one of those cases. Somehow Jessica is able to make lyrics of sentimental slush sound harder edged and it is this ability to give credibility to the incredulous that I just enjoy. Musically nothing like, but over all the effect similar to Isabella Rossellini singing Blue Velvet in the David Lynch film – intoxicating.

Jessica Fleischer is not only deftly able to handle the compositions of the songs, but to add a slightly ironic twist to it with a vocal that transfixes the attention of the listener. A fine debut ten track  LP From The Start was released on the 27th August which should find Lots Of Love gain wider interest. There is more to the sounds than a fine vocal as the instruments also keep a lid on the pink froth within a well behaved rock derivative that harkens to the ’60s and ’50s.

There is much to enjoy here, even a cynic such as myself finds themselves defrosting slightly as the material contains none of the crass marketing autocue that lives inside much of this genre as Jessica writes about her own emotional twists and turns, throwing them up for investigation. I hope Jessica continues with this honesty going forward as this is what is the real value that differentiates Lots Of Love from mainstream pop pap.
