Anima Tempo – Primal Symmetry – Video

The Mexican progressive-metal quintet Anima Tempo are currently working on their second LP.

Anima Tempo

Anima Tempo

The first track to appear from the tentatively pencilled in album, was itself made available as a stand alone single on the 18th.

Primal Symmetry showcases yet a further indication that metal has travelled far from its roots of purely loud and fast to constructs of immense prowess and why what was a self evident genre has fractured in to so many sub categorisations. Whilst earsplitting volume and blurring speed still has plenty of space in my listening repertoire, what is equally welcome is the more qualitative approach where melody comes first and Anima Tempo are at the vanguard to what should perhaps best be generically described as nu-metal – where the layers of songs are at the heart of the compositions.

The Candelights – I Want You – Audio

The Mexican alt-rock quartet The Candelights are working towards the release of the LP …Say Please!.

The Candelights

The Candelights

A couple of tracks have surfaced from the forthcoming album both of which are marked by the heavy stepping bass-drum pedal which booms through room around which the guitars swivel in gazey-glitter while the bass guitar delivers the flow of the compositions with a retro-vocal giving the songs a timelessness. I Want You is dipped in ’70s brit-rock.

Combinations of angular maths, floating indie and metal enable Internal Frequencies to deliver music that continually keeps the listener attentive.

From the forthcoming release, the just over five and a quarter minutes of Equinox, illustrates the extensive journey on which Infernal Frequencies take the audience in individual compositions.

Felixxx - psychedelia from Mexico

Felixxx

Extensive use of Kaoss Pads permits the musicians of Felixxx to extend notes into flying shimmers of spectral hues which float gently around the ears. Combining resonances of Andean pan pipes with progressive rock of the UK and flexing in some Brit-pop the quartet are able to offer a signature sound which spans considerable range which they deliver like a soothing hand, mopping the brow.

The listener is left with a soundscape that would resonate with works by Vonnegut as the fantastical transformations of sound lift it into the whimsical, whilst retaining a foot in the pedestrian, enabling Felixxx to deliver music, which although munificently textured are readily attainable by the mind.  Whilst offering metaphysical extravagance there always remains a shrouded shaped figure which focuses the listener to seek to point a sharper clarity.

Although the music has plenty to carry the audience, one always is left feeling this would works even better in a visual context. To maximise the comprehensive and alliterative value of the music my advice is find a low-light room, nestle back with a glass of wine and hit play and at this point Felixxx makes the restful space therapeutic too.
