Moogle – Silver Lines – Single Review

The Irish slacker project Moogle revealed the track Silver Lines on the 11th.

Moogle

Moogle

Stretching the elasticity of bars to almost breaking point the song rumbles through the room on a warped turntable that gives Silver Lines the feeling of time slowing and catching up with itself, as though running on two different speeds, in a fine rendition of slacker rock.

I was late to catch the note introducing the début track, which came out in June – All My Friends – which has been surpassed with Silver Lines, though both indicative that Moogle is a project to keep an ear out for in the future with fingers crossed that an LP will be on its way in short order as the slowly rotating compositions would be best enjoyed in an extended session. In the interim, if anywhere near, you may well come across Moogle busking in Dublin.

Chirpy – Heavy Hearted – Audio

The Irish alt-folk creator Chirpy released the LP Real Life on the 27th.

Chirpy

The first thing to capture attention is the stunning vocal that has an hypnotic timbre and a spell from which the listener has no desire to break. Underpinning the layered harmonics of voice is an equally intoxicating range of instrumentation, which includes, harp and guitar amongst others.

Whilst instinctively you may think that folk really isn’t your thing, I assure you once hitting play you will become transfixed and desirous of sinking in to the richness of the roughly nineteen minutes of the six compositions – my selection of which is the third – Heavy Hearted.

Word also arrives of a more extensive eponymous release due in November which I am already looking forward to hearing.

Originally released as the title of a three track Single earlier this month and will be the eighth of the eleven on From Night To Night, which is coming out on the 12th of May (both available on bandcamp) – Anya’s Piano is a downtempo number with a ghostly feel that haunts the mind after the notes have faded away.
