Mai Miyako – Show Me – Audio

On the 1st the Danish hazewave project Mai Miyako released the EP Second Release.

The four tracks on Second Release are themed around relationship emotions of love, jealously, insecurity and anger giving the EP something of an introspective melancholia.

Songs are pinned around differing instrumentation, which enhances the mood, with piano, synth and guitar variously taking primacy, my pick of the release being the penultimate and merseybeat influenced –  Show Me – which collapses in to its own insecurities in conclusion.

Capital Unknowns – Calvary Assembly – Audio

The US hazewave duo Capital Unknowns released the LP In God We Trust on the 27th of July.

Capital Unknowns

Capital Unknowns

A nine track album of hushed countenance (available on bandcamp) which slips in to the room in unassuming adornment which camouflages the building intensity of the ensuing roughly thirty six minutes of pastel brush strokes.

Each song on In God We Trust has a slightly different interpretation of a similar theme, akin to artists circling a still life and sketching from their own perspective, the resulting combined output providing a fully detailed 360 degree view for the listeners minds eye to explore further after the notes have died away.

Calvary Assembly is the middle song, which somehow seems an appropriate way to introduce the duo.

The Peppermint Club – All Together, On The Sun – Audio

The Australian hazewave quartet The Peppermint Club released the single All Together, On The Sun yesterday.

The Peppermint Club

The Peppermint Club

Washing their music with fuzzy pastels The Peppermint Club create music that has a mirage effect shimmer as the core of their sound, through which they weave a softened psychedelia enabling them to deliver songs that stretch out a beach towel for the listener to lay and allow the bustle of the day to pass by in distant focus.

The newest song to be released All Together, On The Sun is the second track to appear from the eponymous LP which is set for release on the 15th of September.

Blackaby – Georgie Wants A Garden – Single Review

Blackaby is a relatively new England based hazewave trio.

Already establishing themselves as a credible live performance act despite only having a handful of gigs behind them –  Georgie Wants A Garden, one of only two tracks I have so far heard, though rumour has it that after a binge writing session there are more than an LPs worth awaiting to be made more widely available, was released on the 11th and further attests to a trio, who with justice, will become far more widely known in short order.

The retrospective ’50s wash of the track embraces the listener in soft folds of harmonised vocals and shimmering guitar while percussion sets a captivating tempo.

plume – happy – Audio

The US hazewave duo plume released the EP ivy eyes on the 3rd.

Akin to a mirage the music floats in shimmering folds of siren like temptation and there the mixed metaphor ends as rather than being all glistening lack of substance their music envelopes the listener in threads of silky vocal, a ganache of synth bound by gloopy guitar in which to be pleasurably woven.

The opening track of the five on ivy eyes (available on bandcamp) – happy – being my pick of the release.
