Azwel from New York in the USA is the melodic multi-instrumentalist Jason Perrillo.
There is a lightness of sound that drifts around the room as Azwel delivers songs which are dipped with influences of Britpop and ’70s rock. The process of delivering the pieces of music demands considerable patience as each piece is full instrument and vocal and the listener would be none the wiser that it is a one man show.
Whilst very easy on the ears, some songs do have the toes tapping along, others allow the audience to enjoy the lilting guitar chords and although very much middle of the road, one doesn’t leave with the impression of having watched paint dry as there is more to this than elevator music. Not something to rattle out at a rave, but something to play when music forms more than a backdrop, but less than the centre of attention.
In addition to working hard to put the recordings together, Azwel is a prolific creator with at least one LP appearing annually. The most recent of which came out at the end of last month – the nine track – From Now On.
I raise my hat to Jason for his abilities, as a songwriter / instrumentalist and vocalist and long may Azwel continue to add to the weave of experience.
