treasureseason from Norwich in England is the ‘dancing in a trance’ duo of David Powell and Jess Bartlet.

treasureseason - dancing in a trance - from England

One thing I can assure you of with treasureseason is to turn up the bass, as the duo play much of their music in the upper octaves and without the boost of a sub-woofer you will miss much of the value. Is it dance, is it trance? A very valid question, but lean in close to your partner and move, I am sure you also will not be able to ascertain who is holding up whom, but, your body will be flowing in time with the electronic pulses.

treasureseason produce music which flows inside the mind with unsettling beats as the sounds skip across tempos, ensuring the listener stays alert to the tempestuous confusion, yet, the out-put simultaneously wrests to a continual flow of notes to which the muscles react of their own accord.

The drum-loops are set to a tempo which discombobulates the electronic notes, which gives the compositions their intrigue. A vocal floats gently betwixt the patterns of sound as treasureseason – seek at once to calm and confuse. You know what – for its very variance, there is more than a kernel of added value to the world of music and kudos to the duo for experimenting with the disparities of the timing.

Now – I am off to find out who is holding up whom as the two of us flow around the room accompanied by treasureseason

Candy Claws

Candy Claws is a dream pop project from Fort Collins in the USA made up of Kay BertholfKaren McCormick and Ryan Hover.

Candy Claws - Dream Pop from the USA

Candy Claws

No matter where you turn the dial the music will fill the head with it’s fuzzy immersiveness. The journey that is Candy Claws takes the listener on a mysterious journey into the recesses of the minds of the trio. Allow yourself plenty of time to settle back in the dreamy cloak that the band delivers, an exploration you just don’t want to end.

Somehow my three year delay in responding to the introduction seems appropriate. The gauzy veils that Candy Claws delivers makes for time standing still and the more you play, the more the mind wanders into realm of kaleidoscopic psychedelia. Whilst tracks rarely last four minutes, the effect seems as-though you have been away in a world of your own for far longer, much like being in a dream state.

In addition to the recorded tracks, Candy Claws can also be caught live when the line-up extends to five players.

This is a band best absorbed in a long session and I would urge you to find some time in the diary so to do.

My apologies to the band for taking three years to get back to the introduction, but as has always been the assurance, though I may not always be quick, all introductions will be listened to, even if that is only…… eventually.

Invasions a dream pop quintet from Toronto in Canada is AlexBrianMattBrian and Ara.

Invasions - dream pop from Canada

The mystique of Invasions emerges from the lo-fi connotations. Kick off your shoes and let the warming waves of the quintet wash over the body; Strip away the clothing and just revel in the warming jets of mist that flow around the room as the band mutates betwixt the instrumentation as an unstoppable stream of warming instrumentation disperses its scent, whilst the vocal slides though the instruments like a panther stalking prey.

Configured to entice the pleasure zones, Invasions portend of delights to come and the triumphalist bugle which intersperse many tracks sits as a valedictory triumphalism which suits the minds eye of the audience. Displaced sounds weft across the room, floating like ethereal spirits for the ears to hone towards yet fail to capture as the group meanders off the direction of travel.

Individual tracks are not overly long, yet the brain is convinced it has been on a lengthy stay as Invasions combine both simple constructs with variations on a theme providing sounds which capture the imagination. I just need another lay down to absorb the atmosphere.
