The Swedish melodic death metal sextet Despite were introduced earlier in the year.

The first of the thirteen tracks, Soul = Denied, from the LP Synergi – released on the 22nd, is a fine example of their ability to deliver flashing speed and controlled melodies through the three guitars as bass and drum maintain the ever present pressure-zones.

Deploying three six string guitars Despite are able to play with both hammering speed as well as having the fire-power to allow the underlying melodies to sweep their way through the music: As is demonstrated by the title track and ninth of the bakers dozen on the album.
