Desert Sharks is a garage rock band from New York in the USA comprising Stephanie Gunther (Vocals / Bass), Stefania Rovera (Guitar), Rebecca Rose (Drums) and Sunny Veniero (Guitar).
The infectious enthusiasm of new wave spins around on the room on hitting play as Desert Sharks pare the music to an honest high voltage sound, snapping with bolts of energy. The addition of the second guitar enables the quartet to play around with melodies, though they avoid making it in anyway complicated.
Much as the bands reviewed on the sites are always ones that I feel add value to the world of music and styles reviewed span pretty well every genre, I am never happier than when I am back in what is in my natural home of stripped back energetic rock and Desert Sharks hit the spot.
Through the intensity of the tracks, which generally run at less than three minutes, each in isolation does exactly what it needs to as the superfluous bloat is hacked away. Yet, as with all bands who are proficient exponents of this style of music, that brief period of play seems to be packed with a books worth of content.
With a couple of EPs behind them over the past two years and a string of live performances they have a loyal and enthusiastic fan-base, though will probably remain for many around the world, a band they have never heard of. So it is with some pleasure that I introduce them for the first time on Emerging Indie Bands.
