Daddy Lion – learn to have nothing and you will have everything – CD and booklet
Slightly later than was signposted in their initial introduction last year, the nine track album (available on bandcamp), peers in the room and quietly progresses around the perimeter prior to filling the empty spaces with a billowing haze from which the listener, unawares, breathes in the herbal soundscape and discovers that slightly sweet smell for the past, roughly twenty nine minutes, was in fact quite a strong heady smoke and remaining in floating good humoured mood long after its conclusion, while searching for the telephone number of the nearest pizzeria.
The middle song is Werewolf.

In advance of the release of what will be their début album as a full line up – Maslow (available on bandcamp) surfaced earlier in the month.
A well measured composition that introduces guest cello, by Amy Cuthbertson, which is able to give the track, despite its subtlety, an organic vibrancy whilst analogue synthetics tease the ears from which a percussion sets along the furrow of travel with guitar spilling aside the soil as vocal is given space to hover from the corners of the room before being scooped up by the bass which ensures all the elements are in alignment.
While Daddy Lion is not a band that you will hear at the front of protest marches the music is rooted in social conscience, providing a more philosophical expostulation to the after event conversations, yet, no less intrinsic for its contribution.
