Spreading a net over vagaries of societal and environmental iniquities the EP (available on bandcamp) has a breadth of texture in the five tracks as thoughts turn to reflections which are both of personal and collective notation.

The darkness of each of the songs, leaves a menacing threat hanging over the head of the listener which is poised to befall on those who don’t acquiesce to the tropes of subservient acceptance of the mindless diktats of the world order of the 21st Century.

Cataclysm is the middle track.

Sunken Seas – Seesaw / Cataclysm – Video

It was just before the New Year that I introduced Sunken Seas from New Zealand.

Sunken Seas - Seesaw / Cataclysm

Sunken Seas

Taken from the four track EP – Cataclysm (which is available on iTunes*) Sunken Seas have set two tracks to a new video. Seesaw and Cataclysm to a brief film of the tale of one man from boredom to terminal depression.

I raise my hat to the guys in the band who have set an interpretation to their sounds with such effective visualisation. As someone who doesn’t enjoy films, this is a short I do suggest taking just over twelve minutes out of your day to watch, with it’s powerful imagery and delightful music.

Available for streaming as both High Definition and regular viewing. I am aware that most of the readers of the website are not in locations where very fast internet connections exist – so to ensure that you can see the video without buffering – if the HD (at the bottom right of the video) is in Blue – click it, which will turn off HD – to give you a smoother stream.

Sunken Seas

Sunken Seas have a couple of releases behind them and deliver music of the moment with a sawwing buzz of guitar reverb. Whilst there is a differential between their debut LP Null Hour and the follow-up EP Cataclysm there is a thread to follow as the droning mesmerics of the material wafts around the room in a flux of merging sounds. The music bubbles with societal discontent and is an imagery of change. The oppressive industrialisation sears its way into the head allowing the listener to contemplate the visuals that are created. Turn down the lights, turn up the volume and let yourself drift inside the sound that is Sunken Seas.

Somehow appositely, given the melting pot of fracture and coalescence that is the signature sound of Sunken Seas, from the various notes I have found it appears the band emerged from Tiddabades and have recently undergone another line-up change since their latest release, so it will be interesting to hear how the formulation of the new line-up will sound in future recordings.
