The New Zealand thermal-groove duo Three Feathers are planning to release their début LP this year.
Not a duo in an enormous rush, which suitably matches the songs which drift through the room as though riding an albatross borne on a warm current gliding over the oceans, as it was back in 2013 they formed, however it was not until April of last year that the first song – Make It Good – was made more widely available and on the 16th the second – Know It Well (both available on bandcamp).
Pull up a comfortable chair, settle back and let yourself be encircled in the soft folds of Three Feathers.

Just over a year in to existence No Sky have spent time both in the studio and on the stage to meld the three members of the band, all experienced musicians, in to a cohesive unit and the progression of tracks revealed since May of last year attests to the core ingredient of bands of longer stay, an instinctive connection between the players, is steadily and surely taking shape with Have Fun (which is available on bandcamp) being their most assured reveal thus far with instrumentation, percussion and vocal each forming a natural bonding and weave one within another to create a multi-dimensional timeshifting flow of melting harmonies.

The New Zealand surf-gaze quartet Marlin’s Dreaming released their début LP Lizard Tears on the 27th.
Shimmering echoes drift slowly through the room in – Floating – the third of the nine tracks on the album. The solid dampened bass string provides the pivot around which that hazy vocal and guitars rotate while the quiet rippling cymbals takes the listener to a shore front on overlooking a sunlight calm-sea.
Floating is reflective of the album which has a tempered jazz undertone the sense of a relaxing evening with friends at a riviera café whilst watching the world amble past.

The New Zealand trippy-rock outfit Paprika Jones released the single Playpen Profile today.

Playpen Profile (available on bandcamp) is an intriguing combination of mathematical-rock angularity nestled alongside jazz-influences and rounded out by shimmering reverberation and echoes giving the song a sense of simultaneously tripping-out on acid whilst buzzing on speed – a combination Paprika Jones handle with aplomb and leaves the listener looking forward to hearing more material in the near future.

The New Zealand alt-rock trio Tablefox released the EP Glass Houses on the 25th of May.
Tablefox – Beautiful Morning
A band featured since 2015 who are always able to send an envelope containing familiar, yet different, soundscape each time they proffer new material.
The five tracks on Glass Houses (available on bandcamp) being an example, whereby one track reaches back to last year and a title track that stretches to new chapters as an instrumental number. My selection from the release being the closer – Beautiful Morning.
