After a gap of six years since their last record and many scrapped ideas in the making the trio decided to head back to their formation and the rationale of why they got together as a band in the first place to create an album (available on bandcamp) which is both rich in texturing and in honest earthiness.
Flecked with droplets of psychedelia, fuzzy garage rock and progressive experimentalism Wealth marks a welcome return to the studio for Mary’s Flower Superhead.
The Greek melancholic-folk sextet Tango With Lions are set to release the LP The Light on the 19th.
Tango With Lions
Slewing the room with sweeps of a dark-purple cloak the first song of the nine on the album (available on bandcamp) to be revealed Proof Of Desire finds the listener rapt in awe at the munificence of vocal which is spun through lonely acoustic guitar chords whilst an underlying pinning of orchestration quietly flows in and out of focus in the background.
I merely countenance – do ensure there is a handkerchief nearby to dab away the tears in the corners of the eye prior to hitting play.
The Greek alt-rock trio Beetroot released the AA side single Set Me Free / Fire In The Rain on the 11th.
The single (available on bandcamp) is the final release of the A Distant Victory Singles Club series which has seen Inner Ear release a AA single each month during 2017 to celebrate their tenth anniversary.
Beetroot deliver music which has a slightly trippy feel to it, which Fire In The Rain amply demonstrates.
The Greek alt-rock quintet Bazooka released the EP Ζούγκλα (Jungle) on the 27th.
A four track release (available on bandcamp) of disparate narrative – one moment finding the listener hurtling through the room in frenzied dance step the next laying aside a campfire quietly tapping a tambourine, yet always engrossing as Bazooka deliver a set of songs in which the audience becomes transfixed by both the breadth of sounds and equally the intricate structures of each composition.
Necessarily, and unsurprisingly for those who are frequent readers of the site, the most energetic fusillade of sound is likely to be my pick of the release, which in this instance is the opener and title Ζούγκλα (Jungle).
The Greek electrowave duo Gioumourtzina release the AA side single Fayum / Mouthless tomorrow.
Fayum (available on bandcamp) finds Gioumourtzina with a more regular template from which they work than previous music of featured, whilst equally turning up the wick.
The combinations of bass and electronics come tumbling out of the speakers like ants scurrying back and forth with an unrelenting flow of activity and similarly akin to an army of ants, rather than the seemingly frenetic bustling, as the various textures come in to earshot, so the elements takes on a purposeful and organised shape, much like as can be seen when taking a birds eye overview of a colony on the march.
