The first track to surface from the album (itself available as a standalone single on bandcamp) I’m Not Dead – is a just over eight minute exposition of atmospheric instrumental rock that takes the listener in to a journey of imaginative interconnecting spacious melodies which have something of a celestial science-fiction feel in which time and motion become abstract notions.

I Am Death opens with bass strings so loose that it is possible to feel the twang of the steel springs through the speakers – meaning there is little likelihood I could pass by the first song to surface from the album without suggesting spending time in their company.

The first track to surface from the album Divine Music, Unholy Flesh – the fifth of the eight songs – showcases their twist to the core sound of death metal, with their deployment of three voices, winding guitar and tenor saxophone set to a pulverising bass and drum-kit.

The first song to surface from the album – Sacramento – which itself was released as a stand alone single, available on bandcamp, on the 15th – is a quiet blend of their origination of folk conjoined with arithmetical angles to deliver a just under four minutes reveal in which the listener becomes completely absorbed.

A plethora of strummed, picked and bowed instrumentation, muffled drum and hypnotic vocal are never overplayed with, akin to an orchestra, each musical interlocutor combining to create a greater sum than the individual elements.

Pulling in a vast array of influences each track offers a new idea, from trad-jazz, through funkadelia, to bluesy yet never straying in to incomprehensibility as – although tracks can be lengthy, as is the case of my selection from the release (available on bandcamp) the seventh of the eleven Leaving, the only purely instrumental track on the album – there is a sense of direction of travel.
