The US americana outfit Bay Station released the LP Other Desert Cities on the 27th of April.
A ten track, roughly thirty five minutes, release (available on bandcamp) invites the listener to bring friends around and settle on a stoop with a cold beer to hand whilst passing the ebb and flow of the day in their company.
The compositions, which don’t try and do anything fancy, are evidently written and performed by musicians who know one end of an instrument from another as the tracks all have, appropriately, the ability to create the impression of dry dust seeping through the speakers and hence reference to the subject matter at hand.
The sixth track is Baja Blues.

The English americana creator Jon C Butler released the LP Universal Stranger on the 28th of July.

There is an immense pleasure to be taken in spending the roughly forty five minutes it takes to run through the eleven track album (available on bandcamp) allowing the quietly paced and understated songs to warm the bone-marrow and listener can feel their whole being drifting in to quiet relaxation as effectively as a massage to unknot cramped shoulders.
The many years experience of Jon C Butler does not deliver a sound of a jaded veteran, rather a highly accomplished song-writer who still finds great pleasure in creating and delivering music with the enthusiasm of day one.
By way of an introduction the third song – A Little Misunderstanding.

The English Americana outfit Little Mammoths release the LP Cargo For The Road on the 23rd.
First to surface from the album is Hungover In New York.
The superlative voice immediately focuses the attention with the raspy breath of a whisky drinker and heavy smoker as it whetstones through the room on scratched vocal chord.
By the time mind refocuses on the accompanying instrumentation – the listener is already in rapt attention as they alight upon the cornucopia of sounds which, by each bar, entice greater adoration as surfacing through the soundtrack is a lap-steel that has the ability to make the lyrics seem as though they are being rushed, whilst tautly strung guitar shimmers on finger-nail strumming with the bass providing an earthy grounding and the drums keeping everything aligned as it weaves between brushed steel and snippy skin.

The English Americana trio 45 released the EP Total Curtain Failure last month.
The roughly thirteen minute four track is signatured by bending guitar strings and extended vocal twists and turns as the trio inject UK phlegmatic indifference into classic US rock, resulting in a release which counter-intuitively is able to broach the Atlantic Ocean in a joyous marrying of ideas – revealing something to add to the ‘moments of reflective’ playlist.
The second track on the EP (available on bandcamp) is Longshot.
