New Cold War is a new-wave band from Las Vegas in The USA comprising Andy Harrison (Guitars / Vocals), John Brown (Guitars / Vocals), Cody Leavitt ( Bass / Vocals), Luis Mendez (Percussion) and Micah Malcolm (Percussion).
New on the block New Cold War was originally formed as a Studio Band to make a few tracks, but as fortune would have this quickly changed and they have transformed into a fully-fledged touring out-fit.
The feature for me of the band is the skittering percussion that invests New Cold War with a commanding presence. That isn’t to say that the rest of the sounds don’t fit together, they do, as the band produces music which hurtles around the head in a frenzy of activity. You can feel the sweat soaked notes flailing against the skin as the music energetically injects itself into the audience.
Members of the band all have other projects on the go, so it is a pleasure that they have been able to work out a schedule that meets the demands of everyone involved, including rotational drummers.
The début five track eponymous EP arrived in March and is an essential to add to any music collection. Although I haven’t had the opportunity to see the New Cold War live, by the fury of the recorded material, I would anticipate that their stage performances are great nights out.
