Morning River Band – The Sun Alone – Audio

The Philadelphia (USA) quartet of Denny Barron (Bass / Vocals), Jeffrey Fields (Guitar / Vocals), Arthur Herrmann (Steel Guitar / Lead Guitar / Vocals) and Joe Idell (Drums / Vocals) who form the americana-angst group Morning River Band release the LP Brambles on the 18th.

Morning River Band

A nine track album (available on bandcamp) which although riven with downcast narrative and vocal finds the listener tapping alongside, with some delight, the sprightly tempo and quirky instruments.

Always a sucker for steel guitar – my pick of the release is the middle track – The Sun Alone.

Frostyn – This Is How It’s Gonna Be – Single Review

The alt-indie project Frostyn from Minneapolis (USA) will be releasing the single This Is How It’s Gonna Be on the 22nd.

Frostyn
Frostyn

A track which runs two conjoined ideas which unify, like strawberries and cream, to create a moreish taster.

Underpinned by bright and breezy twinkling of the stardust guitar and synthesised loops, the minors of the elongated properties of the vocal swathe the listener in a web of infectious sadness leaving the audience both swaying on the dance-floor while losing themselves an introspective moment of self-reflection.

This Is How It’s Gonna Be makes for an intimate follow-up to the EP Doc of Love from June of last year – I merely look forward to hearing more while in the meantime I will just clear away that dust that seems to have blown in to my eyes.

Libby Tisler – Paper Heart – Single Review

Surfacing from New Orleans (USA) is the acoustic-emo creator Libby Tisler who released the single Paper Heart yesterday.

Libby Tisler
Libby Tisler

An approaching four and a half minutes track of sadcore-folk which adds Shawn Garrity who provides, amongst other things, a heart rending slide-guitar which enhances the mood music.

Sometimes a pudgy fingered mix creates a track of unintended consequence and this is case in point as from the constituent elements and starting point of country-folk Paper Heart has become an acoustic-emo song with the vocal thrust in to a lanky-spotlight giving the song a scrawling loci in to which the listener finds themselves absorbed by the seemingly abstractionist positioning, yet, is able to add emotive context to the lyric.

Imp Of Perverse – Chrysalis – Audio

Sean Lochridge from Austin (USA) performing as the trippy-gaze project Imp Of Perverse, who was introduced earlier in the year, releases the LP Imp In Reverse tomorrow.

Imp of Perverse
Imp of Perverse

A twenty two track album (available on bandcamp) that is best heard in full to allow the mind to float in to the rabbit warren of the slowly rotating, hazy, compositions which transposes the listener in to mesmeric tripped out lofi world of hazy multicoloured psychotropics.

Chrysalis is the tenth track.

Each of the tracks on Onward, Pillager (available on bandcamp) brings a different brush stroke to the tripped-out release, with with stoner, progressive-psych and heavy-metal peering through the speakers from behind a thick fug of sweet scented smoke.

The middle track is WCCQ
