Limbo from Chaves in Portugal is the alt-rock quintet of Marcos Barroco (Vocals), Cardus (Guitar), Bruno Barroso (Guitar), Litos (Bass) and Tiago Ventura (Drums).
Fulminating pent-up rage bubbles across the floor like acid eating into metal as Limbo cast a scant eye around the world. Yet the frustrations are held in check to deliver compositions which rely on melodic construct to deliver their acerbic perspectives and it is the juxtaposition of the two, which gives the material an understated mannerism, that marks the quintet out for consideration.
The bass / percussion combinations speak of the frustrations and sit in tandem with the vocal, whilst the guitars are given time and space to add the colour palette to the sounds and the end result are sounds that are able to carry the tracks, which typically extend well over four minutes, keeping the audience engaged with the progress.
Originally a six piece, one of the guitarists left recently and it will be interesting to see if Limbo is able to continue to generate their expansive textures of guitars with only the two.

JUBA a psychedelic rock band from Lisbon in Portugal is João Isaac (Drums / Backing Vocals), Joel Lucas (Guitar / Keyboard / Backing Vocals), Miguel Marinho (Guitar / Backing Vocals) and Tomás Frias (Bass / Lead Vocals).
You may have thought given the preponderance of vocalists that JUBA would essentially be a vocal out-fit, far from it, the voices are echoed into the background giving the garage rock style psychedelia something of a mellowed feel. Tracks flow through the speakers at a veritable trot and immediately the listener is intrigued as to how the combinations will work. There is no sense of disappointment as the quartet deliver subtle moods and colours to the material that rarely runs beyond the three and a half minute mark.
JUBA have managed to distil the essence of psychotropia and dilute it with diligently produced whisps of smoke, permitting the audience to enjoy a sound that has a dreamy quality which rests the brain, whilst upping the tempo focussing the mind more on the music than an internal exploration.
Their debut LP the, ten track thirty five minute Mynah is a distinctive and enthralling body of work.
