The Greek alt-rock quintet Bazooka released the EP Ζούγκλα (Jungle) on the 27th.
A four track release (available on bandcamp) of disparate narrative – one moment finding the listener hurtling through the room in frenzied dance step the next laying aside a campfire quietly tapping a tambourine, yet always engrossing as Bazooka deliver a set of songs in which the audience becomes transfixed by both the breadth of sounds and equally the intricate structures of each composition.
Necessarily, and unsurprisingly for those who are frequent readers of the site, the most energetic fusillade of sound is likely to be my pick of the release, which in this instance is the opener and title Ζούγκλα (Jungle).
The Greek alt-rock project Jack Heart released the AA side single Voodoo King / 108 on the 1st.
As part of the 10th anniversary monthly A Distant Victory Singles Club release series this year by Inner Ear – Voodoo King (available on bandcamp) has a retrospective filter through which the brooding track permeates the marrow-bone and a serves as a good introduction to a musician I look forward to hearing more form in short order.
The Greek contemplative project The Boy released the LP Έτοιμοι Δύο (Ready Two) on the 4th.
The follow-up to Έτοιμοι Ένα (Ready A) is of different countenance to the previous release featured in May of last year, being of instrumentation rather than electronica accompaniment to the melancholic backdrop.
Έτοιμοι Δύο (Ready Two) is available on bandcamp with the piano laden Αγέννητος (Unborn), the seventh of the fourteen tracks, being my pick of the release.
The Greek retro-surf project centred around Eleni Karageorgou – Post Lovers – releases the AA side single Melbourne / Going Anyway on the 1st of August.
Those of longer stay would be right to tie up the idea of a double A side single by a musical act from Greece being release on the 1st of the month with the monthly 2017 celebration releases by Inner Ear Records to mark their tenth anniversary as part of the A Distant Victory Singles Club series.
Available via bandcamp – Going Anyway can’t do anything than make the world seem a better place for its existence.
The Greek electrowave duo Gioumourtzina release the AA side single Fayum / Mouthless tomorrow.
Fayum (available on bandcamp) finds Gioumourtzina with a more regular template from which they work than previous music of featured, whilst equally turning up the wick.
The combinations of bass and electronics come tumbling out of the speakers like ants scurrying back and forth with an unrelenting flow of activity and similarly akin to an army of ants, rather than the seemingly frenetic bustling, as the various textures come in to earshot, so the elements takes on a purposeful and organised shape, much like as can be seen when taking a birds eye overview of a colony on the march.
