I'm Not A Band - alt-electro from Germany

I’m Not A Band

With their judicious use of violin compositions and a haunting flute to add whisps of flavours to to the dance beats I’m Not A Band is able to provide the audience with both physical and mental stimulation. Luscious textures of sound float around the room and the only thing to do is close the eyes and wallow in the music.

This is material to allow the brain to meander with, whilst the body gently sways like a willow in the breeze. The combinations of classical violin combining with electro-loops gives the listener much to enjoy and frequent references to Turkish Folk add a decadence to the music that enraptures the ears. For maximum value all that is needed are pulsating strobe lights to flicker across the eyelids and many hours to spare.

I’m Not A Band is able to deliver sounds which although infused with difference, are meltingly simple to engage with and ask nothing more of the ears than for them to be open.

Noë - alt indie from Germany

Noë

You can tell by the range of instruments this isn’t your straightforward indie rock as Noë proffer an alternative more uplifting version musically as the lyrics spin around the world today, an intriguing sound to grab the ears, think Reggae on speed and you are with it.

Delightfully arranged compositions utilise all the instruments in a showering spark of light as the vocal reflects on a world in decay. There is some pleasure to be taken from the contextualisation particularly as Germanic is oft sentienced for a lack of humour, yet here we have it in a shimmering reflective, the more the music dances, the more morose the lyrics.

Never heading to the theatrical Noë are able provide a conceptual sound, which never mind the listeners grasp of German, give it a moment and it will make perfect sense for its contextualisation, this is music that portrays concept despite potential language barriers and it is always a personal pleasure when I can find bands that resonate globally when singing in their native language rather than the ubiquitous lingua franca demanding a global audience to engage not just instrumentally but linguistically, rather than just to receive.

Thanks Noë  and keep doing what you do, this is music that adds value to the world.

C-Types - Garage Rock from Germany

C-Types

A sense of the absurd is the order of the day and on hitting play you get the feeling that The Rocky Horror Picture Show has been updated. This is music to party to and sets a great scene for Friday. Banging rock ‘n’ Roll trips out of the speakers and the body is lifted up for a spin around the dance floor. As with fantastical as the costumes there is nothing to do other than join in the fun as C-Types extend tunes of sheer enthusiasm and trashy rock.

Whilst music covers similar themes, they are able to change tack a little, to generate sounds that keep the audience interested. Never extending the music beyond the minimalist it isn’t easy to keep the brain engaged, but C-Types have created a sound full of theatrics and hip shakes that keep the listener with them for the duration. Don’t however be fooled into thinking they don’t care, they also ensure decent production qualities which keeps the music distinct and sharply defined as they take the time and effort to work with those who add the greatest value to recordings.

If you get even the slightest pleasure from letting your hair down from time to time, these three are a sound to have to hand.

Dangerous Person?

Dangerous Person? is the alt-electro duo of Rose Hunter and Gustav Jäger from Berlin in Germany.

Dangerous Person? - alt electro from Germany

Dangerous Person?

There is an intriguing combination of throw away pop and considered creativity that underscores the output of Dangerous Person?. To carry this off and leave the listener feeling satiated is no mean feat. Think of Neunundneunzig Luftballons by Nena, where the musical output belies the underlying message, then add a depth of real instrumental and we find ourselves with the duo.

Delightful guitars slither around the room over which dance beat pop electronic loops swoop up the listener and overlaying it is scintillating vocal. Dangerous Person? deliver sounds that can be listened to in a variety of moods and still find a mark that nestles well with the synapses.

One can imagine Rose and Gustav having spent many hours huddled in conversation to explore the edges of their minds to produce the music and it is perhaps not surprising that after three years there is only one EP available, though this is set to be rectified on the 11th October with the release of an LP –  Diving.

Much as I enjoy the output, it will come as no shock to you that I am a little frustrated by the lengthy delay between releases and as I am not in Germany, don’t get the opportunity to do anything other than rely on available recordings as this is music which would play well across wider boundaries, if only they let anyone ever hear any of it.

RAU

RAU is Maggy (Guitar / Vocals), Kay-Uwe Dörflinger (Drums) and Jim Albrand (Bass) an alternative rock band from Cuxhaven in Germany.

RAU - alternative rock from Germany

RAU

The music fairly tears into the room with a percussion that wraps itself into the head and involuntary the body joins in with the frenetic beat being set by the double time tempo. Whilst the overall effect is one of a band in a hurry, RAU, keeps it all under control creating a smartly composed  out-put.

This part of Lower Saxony is a fine hotbed of creativity as established readers will recall another find covered last year on the old site. Introducing a range of influences, including reggae and US indie, RAU successfully take the lighter textures and give them a sanding to deliver a darker rock effect which holds together extremely well.

The vocal is finely delivered and creates a good contrast to the gruffer instrumental accompaniment lifting the music to a creativity which is a great addition to the world of music. I look forward to hearing more of RAU in the future. Their six track release Keine Sau Kennt RAU which sees them showcasing the breadth of their sounds, from the slower pace folk derivative to the higher tempo, which in my view is their core strength, should find them make a more decisive impact and build their audience.
