The Milwaukee (USA) alt-rock quintet Flat Teeth, comprised of Nik (Vocals / Guitar), Andy K (Guitars), Ken (Bass), Andy O (Keys) and Brian (Drums) ,will be releasing the LP Winter House on the 29th.
The six track album (available on bandcamp) holds the attention of the listener as the quintet deliver their blend of rocky riffs and emo twinges which is served on the plate with tasty garnishes.
Flat Teeth carve out space for themselves with the judicious harmonies of vocal by the two Andys‘ supporting the lead of Nik allowing them significant flexibility, which combines with the two guitars, again enabling themselves room for expression, while the keys affords the means by which to infuse the tracks with their different textures.
My pick of the release being the penultimate song – Play Different.
Why it has taken over three years to return to the Indian Ska outfit The Ska Vengers is a mystery of its own creation.
The Ska Vengers
Although not a new song, nor even of a recent performance, the track Shut Your Mouth, captured live in England has this past week been made available. In the fond hope of new material, a reminder of The Ska Vengers.
Special mention is made to Karan Joseph, who died last year and plays keys in this performance.
Their music has a sublimating delayed echo which gives the compositions a luxurious depth that minds of walking barefoot over a thick pile soft carpet, giving the songs a dreamy allure in which the listener becomes fully immersed.
In the newest single – My Love Is Real -, which came out earlier in the month, the relaxing ebb and flow of the guitar washes around the listener while the subdued manner of vocal, bass and barely ripple, yet, despite the gentle frame of the track the multifarious layers afford the song a compelling and hypnotic presence.
The duo of Joshua Frank (Bass) and Tom Ng (Guitar / Vocals) who form the trippy-blues band Gong Gong Gong, based in Beijing (China) releases the AA side single Siren / Something’s Happening on the 9th of November.
Gong Gong Gong
Stripping back the sounds until the skeleton is almost visible Gong Gong Gong deliver tracks which form a primordial presence in the room.
Siren (available on bandcamp) is a composition in which the percussive guitar slips and slides beneath the melodies of the bass and textured by the hazed vocal creating the mystical demeanour of their music.
Gong Gong Gong are currently touring in the USA.

Regularly including extra musicians as required in both studio and live performance, Shake adds bass and drums to deliver a track that veritably shakes the room to its foundations.
From the opening moments of the sharp percussive introduction to the track, the listener finds themselves welded to the spot, by the time the rootsy piano, bass and stunning vocal get in to full flow the outside world has already become an irrelevance.
Recording of an as yet unnamed LP has recently completed and plans are for a release next year – Shake is the first song to surface.
