Tender Glue – City Girl – Audio

Tom Gluewicki, based in New York (USA), is the sadcore musician performing under the name Tender Glue who released the LP Closet Leftovers on the 28th.

Tender Glue

Tender Glue

There is an alluring fragility to the compositions which have a quiet melancholia that folds around the listener in saddened threads of instrumentation and fractured vocal.

The nine track album (available on bandcamp) is best approached in full setting to allow the tear-stained songs to build their layers of emotional intensity which envelop the mind.

City Girl, the fourth track, being my highlight of the LP.

The Abyssmals – Sleepwalker – Audio

The US trippy-rock quintet The Abyssmals released their eponymous LP on the 22nd.

The Abyssmals

The Abyssmals

A group of musicians with differing influences, which rather than becoming a point of contention is a bond of strength as they deliver songs which have a touch of much, a retrospective air and  their own stamp of difference allowing them to deliver in the six tracks on the LP (available on bandcamp) roughly twenty two minutes of absorbing rock’n’roll.

The antepenultimate song and my pick of the release is Sleepwalker.

The first track to surface from the release, Don’t Grow Up, which is the second of the four on the EP (available on bandcamp) has an unadorned joie de vivre which fills the room with an infectious hazy wave of reverb and pulsating bass / percussion felted by the elongated vocal.

As you would anticipate the five track EP, which is available on bandcamp, is not a case study in brevity, lasting as it does for approximately seventy four minutes.

There is an imaginative experimentalism to the release as varieties of piano, guitar, electronica and field sound recordings are fused in to an immersive soundscape in which to harmonise the flow of the mind and allow it to, akin to an unpaired electron, dimerize with the music ultimately forming a covalent bond.

Culture Working, which lasts for precisely twenty minutes, is the middle track.

Embassy 516 - Ghosts

Embassy 516

With a different sound to music of their previously featured – Ghosts – the third of the fourteen tracks on the album, has an art-rock stridency that is paired with a cinematic soundscape to create a song that builds ever more expansive imagery and rivulets of exploration through its approaching three and eleven twelfths minutes of duration.

Be aware flashing lights in video…
