Karma Roulette – Riot Act – Single Review

Karma Roulette, the English grunge quintet, released the single Riot Act on the 27th.

Karma Roulette

Riot Act, their début single, indicates of a band who immediately need to be added to the ‘essentials to get through life’ playlist with their impressive sound.

A quiet confidence affords Karma Roulette the temptation to try and do things slightly differently and rather than utilising the two guitars to do little more than add volume, speed or melody to the composition they work as buffers, each virtually cancelling out the inflections of the chords of the other, creating an absorbing flattened structure to the track through which a puddling percussion splashes mud out of the speakers while it is the bass that adds the layered sonics with the measured and well judged vocal wrapping itself around the audience, leaving them looking forward to hearing more in short order.

This will be the ninth album for an outfit who have been around since ’94 yet it is as fresh as a spring lamb frolicking in the field.

The dozen track LP (available on bandcamp) minds of a vogue fem performance with the songs being of scornful contempt for frothing nationalism in a world in which the 99% supplicate to the 1%.

Eldren – Still Want More – Audio

The US indie quintet Eldren will be releasing the LP Miss Information Aged on the 21st of September.

Eldren

Striking a fine balance between music in which to wash away the stresses of the day, while retaining a scornful eye on the world around, Eldren pitch their output smartly with the sardony of lyric being peroxided by the soft boy-band voice and easy gait of the compositions.

Still Want More, the first track to surface from the album, is the sixth of the ten on the album.

Lunar Landscape – Siren’s Calling – Audio

The French atmospheric-rock outfit Lunar Landscape release the LP The Infinite Pleasure of Being on the 12th of September.

The seven songs offer an expansive journey in modulated frequencies taking the listener through moments of modern-classics, ambient cinematography, gazey-rock and more, though rather than leaving the listener pitching like a dinghy in heavy seas, the quiet undertow of the compositions allows each slice of the album to take its moment in centre spotlight without jostling the preceding track by its presence.

An LP which can be taken in one sitting or equally as relevant when approached in isolated moments. Sirens’ Calling, the third track, was itself released as a stand alone single on the 24th and is available on bandcamp.
