Queen Zee – Idle Crown – Single Review

The English new-wave band Queen Zee have become a regular feature on the site since their introduction early in the year.

Queen Zee -Idle Crown

Queen Zee

Their latest single, Idle Crown, which was released towards the end of last month is another stormer of a track.

The pressure waves of Idle Crown are presented through a bass which takes greater prominence than previous songs giving it a more brooding presence while the fuzzing guitars are still prominent, by laying further back in the mix, Queen Zee (in their recently abbreviated name form) are able to create a song which has inbuilt power and although slower than other compositions is no less as fired up as anticipated to be in their material and a welcome different dimension to their creativity.

Idle Crown – Queen Zee is available on iTunes.*

The twenty three track album (available on bandcamp) is of a different feel to when Lunar Lemur previously feature with its quiet expansive fusions of bells and echoing synth.

Each track being simple named Gate and the number it is on the LP – this being Gate 19.

Thames – Ecology – Audio

The US alt-rock quartet Thames released the EP The Fear on the 27th of November.

Thames

Thames

A four track EP (available on bandcamp) in which Thames showcase their ability to deliver music of varied influence, with the commonality of a quietly understated confidence in which they have a justified self-belief.

The listener is invited to pull up a duvet and settle on soft pillows in which to lay and allow the richly seamed textures of the roughly twenty minutes release thread through the mind in ambient, intricate, layers of guitars, keys, bass, percussion and harmonies of vocal.

The closing song is Ecology.

CORTA – Sure To Exist – Video

CORTA is a new English dreamgaze outfit.

CORTA

CORTA

Their début song – Sure To Exist – slides through the room in backwashes of curling guitar, pulsing percussion, rumbling bass and echoing vocal that minds the listener of laying on a shoreline at night and listening to the soft bubbles of tidal surf lapping over a sandy beach.

CORTA, on the basis of the one song that exists, are a set of musicians who have much to offer the world of music and are a band I look forward to hearing much more from in the ensuing years.

Riscas – Right Kinda Day – Single Review

The English indie-rock quartet Riscas released their latest track Right Kinda Day within the past few hours.

Riscas

Riscas

It is of little surprise Riscas are rapidly gaining visibility and Right Kinda Day can only boost that development.

The music soars in to the room carried on highly impressive guitar work, prior to flowing inside a warm melodic vocal with the percussion gradually geeing up the tempo and compaction, which slowly builds to the full layering of rhythm and lead guitars interweaving in luxurious texturing with bass tying everything together and the listener is encased in a calmly delivered, though highly active and unforced interplay between all the elements of the band, which leaves the audience not particularly aware of the hard work under the bonnet, akin to a swam furiously paddling, whilst serenely gliding over a lake.
