The Icelandic alt-rock project of Soffía Björg will be releasing the début eponymous LP in physical format on the 13th of April.
On hitting play a spellbinding vocal drifts across the room to a backdrop of luxuriously textured guitar that instantly holds attention and all external distractions fade into silence as the listeners mind is completely absorbed in the intense and brooding undercurrent.
The US alt-rock band The Tisburys released the three track single Crooked Roads on the 27th.
Centred around a trio – The Tisburys add other players as makes sense, enabling them to deliver music with a wide range of ideas, as is evidenced in the recent release – though always steeped in americana-rock.
The roughly fourteen minutes of Crooked Roads (available on bandcamp) offers the listener steel-based folk, via bluesy rock to rock’n’roll and my pick of the release is the opener and title track which grabs the listener by the arm as it launches in to the room – pulling them out on to the dance-floor
The Danish heavy-metal SEA will be releasing the LP The Grip Of Time on the 12th of May.
The classic sounds of faded leather, pin badges and denim tops soar in to the room as SEA take a tried and tested formula and deliver in Once We Were Dead, from the forthcoming album, four and a bit minutes of music with which to headbang.
The US alt-hop creators Afrovelvet and Nate Gski collaborated to release the three track single Not Just A Body on the 31st.
Afrovelvet and Nate Gski
Delivering a message of changing a societal normality in the USA where not being White instantly results in discrimination, preconception and marginalisation.
In Not Just A Body (available on bandcamp) Afrovelvet + Nate Gski don’t rail in a rage, rather approach the quandary with an ethereal grace which, for its delicate feathering, leaves the listener in contemplative mood.
