The Finnish melancholic-metal band Vorna released the single Tie Varjoista on the 5th.
The music that Vorna produces leaves the listener with the sense of a dark folk tale unfolding and once having hit play the audience wants to settle down for a lengthy session in their brooding presence with Tie Varjoista (available on bandcamp) being no exception.
Having last revealed an LP just over a year ago – Ei Valo Minua Seuraa (also on bandcamp) – I hope there is a follow-up on its way shortly.
The Finnish electro-metal sextet, Vorna, are set to release the LP – Ei Valo Minua Seuraa – on the 4th of December.
Vorna – Ei Valo Minua Seuraa – artwork
A symphonic composition flows around the room as Yskin, the penultimate of the seven tracks on Ei Valo Minua Seuraa magisterially floats into earshot. The graceful sounds of – synthesised-violin, chorale, bowed double-bass and pianoforte are torn asunder by the demanding mewling vocal which spits invective at all in proximity and as the track builds so does the fulminating metal waiting to be unsheathed.
Vorna is able to achieve all of this without becoming a parody of themselves. There is nothing to do other than settle back and enjoy the spectacle of six highly talented musicians who understand precisely how to pitch their creative juices in best order, leaving the listener with nothing more to do than malinger from other activity to take pleasure in the the stunning creativity that unfolds.
The CD for Ei Valo Minua Seurra is available directly from the label – Inverse Records. Having had the opportunity to take a spin around the album, if you enjoy a bit of melodrama with your cup of coffee, well worth grabbing hold of and holding tightly.
