Centrefolds from Bath in England is the indie dance quartet of Thomas Corneill (Guitar / Vocals), Phil Smith (Guitar / Vocals), Martin Iles (Drums) and Alex McClean (Bass).
Alongside the instruments lay splashes of syntheses as Centrefolds deliver music which at once is easy dance, whilst simultaneously enveloping music for the listener to enjoy whilst seated. Having had a successful early start to their career the quartet are hoping to kick-start 2014 with the launch of a new EP – Fashion – at the start of February.
The easily digested pieces of music are enhanced by twists of darkness which Centrefolds deliver within tightly woven tracks that hook in the audience from the off. Whilst evidently aiming for the mainstream the quartet offer enough differential to also capture the attention of those who like some imbalance in their music and it is good to hear that they haven’t eschewed rock constructs to pursue a direction of travel.
Centrefolds are able to negotiate the path between indie-pop and synth-rock deftly whilst handing out treats on both sides of the road allowing then to potentially gain a broad fan-base.
I guess 2014 is the year that the major league opens up, or it never will for the quartet and I wish Centrefolds the best with their musical career however it turns out.
