Rehearsed Living – The Weakness In Me – Single Review

From time to time – completely out of the blue – the English melancholic-synth outfit Rehearsed Living reveal a new song.

Rehearsed Living - The Weakness In Me

Rehearsed Living

Their latest, made available a couple of hours ago – The Weakness In Me, as with all of their catalogue is available for free download.

Always of bleak moment, I particularly relish the extensive use of slack strung bass in The Weakness In Me which gives the track a resonance of Joy Division in a tale of relationship turmoil. The drifting synths gives a sense of introspective consternation and self-doubt, while the vocal lays bleakly over a forlorn guitar with the percussion providing the feel of the inevitability of an unstoppable collision of perspectives. The sharp closing leaves the listener aware that the consternation played out has not yet reached its conclusion.

Having first featured Rehearsed Living back in 2011, it is always a delight to be able to feature their new compositions and I look forward to another half a decade of their occasional, always surprising and always welcome – songs.

With a very different sound – a live version, with full orchestration, of Lost – a composition that reflects of the fragility and pain of emotional connections.
