Lagori - Alt-rock from India

Lagori

Taking influences from various regions across India and western rock, whilst singing in Hindi Lagori, provides the audience with a delightful resulting out-put which for it’s very inclusiveness has an international flavour that resonates with audiences regardless of language comprehension.

The gently filtered tracks are from time to time interspersed by the presence of metal focussed pieces, which roar out of the speakers. For fans of world music Lagori make a space which makes genuine sense as it offers an extending hand regardless of location. The quintet all take time to provide backing vocals, which gives the music considerable vocal dexterity and the combinations of acoustic and electric guitars sitting alongside traditional percussion adds a further texture of interest.

Although combining such disparate influences, the resulting compositions do not come across as hashes of nothingness, rather hint at familiarity and simultaneously new sounds, allowing the audience to enjoy the freshness and open welcome being offered to the ears.

Tarsiers

Tarsiers is a psychedelic rock band from Cardiff in Wales, comprising Mike (Guitar / Vocals), Rory (Bass / Vocals) and Jean-Pierre (Drums / Vocals).

Tarsiers - Psychedelic Rock from Wales

Tarsiers

In the approaching five years of reviewing new bands there still hasn’t been a duplicate band name, though this and the previous review come pretty close, with only a ‘The’ separating the names, though that one word marks a gulf in musical styles as Tarsiers deliver their melodic psychedelic take on the world.

Echoes are deployed to often give the music an almost stop start animation about it, whilst reverb allows the music to keep flowing forwards. There is much to enjoy here as the trio combine, garage, psychedelia and garage with influences from the the Indian Sub-Continent, providing the audience with much to invest their brains, without it becoming hard work.

Underpinning what floats around the ears is a hive of activity by the players, which they are able to deliver an overall sound that has an ethereal smokiness to it that wraps the listener into a calming trance. Having spent the year of their existence in honing their craft through live performance there is a rumour that an EP is in the works and this I look forward to with enthusiasm.

The Tarsiers

The Tarsiers from Birmingham is the the rock band of DudzIan and Ryan.

The Tarsiers - rock from England

The Tarsiers

Retro glam-rock comes to mind on hitting play as The Tarsiers deliver big open spaces of rock which flow around the room in soaring compositions which don’t try to be anything other than what they are, good old fashioned fun-times. Whilst stylistically the music resonates of the past and any number of lists of ‘reminds me of’ could be written, the songs themselves are of today and it this is ability to combine the past with present that gives the trio an interesting out-put.

The Tarsiers produce pieces that convince the ears there must be more than three people involved, as although there is much activity by the individual players, they are able to deliver the tracks both with power and control.

Whilst the music translates well to recorded out-put, in fact there is a five track EP on it’s way, this is music best enjoyed with a crowd of other people at the front of the stage.
